Pittsburgh, Noviembre 12, 2025 – Today, state Senator Wayne Fontana issued the following statement after voting for the 2025-26 State Budget:
“I understand the impact of a budget that is over four months late for many people, but the priorities of my constituents that I championed during this impasse—affordability, education funding, public safety, job growth—will benefit communities across the commonwealth.
This budget continues our historic commitment in K-12 education, addresses the food insecurity and hunger worsened by the policies of the Trump Administration, and invests in proven public safety initiatives, all without raising taxes and even provides a tax cut to working families.
This final product is a good budget for the people of Pennsylvania and I proudly voted for it today.”
The final budget agreement includes:
- A new Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit that will put $193 million into the pockets of working families
- Cyber-Charter School reporting improvements that will save local taxpayers over $13 million this year
- A new, $5 million research program for neurodegenerative diseases (ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s)
The $50.09 billion General Fund budget makes several impactful investments into programs upon which Pennsylvanians rely:
- $526 million in additional education funding for our schools
- $120 million for school building safety improvement and student mental health grants
- $50 million for special upcoming events in the commonwealth, including the 2026 NFL Draft
- $25 million for childcare worker retention and recruitment
- An additional $10 million for home and community-based services for senior citizens
