Pittsburgh – August 19, 2025 – State Senator Wayne Fontana issued the following statement regarding today’s announcement by the Pittsburgh Riverhounds that they will be expanding Highmark Stadium:
“Pittsburgh is a sports town.
It has been great to watch as the Riverhounds have become one of the more successful USL franchises over the past several years.
I applaud the Riverhounds organization, led by owner Tuffy Shallenberger, for committing to such a substantial investment in Highmark Stadium, home to a professional team on the rise and to its rabid fan base.
This expansion project will mean good, union construction jobs in the short-term and additional economic impact from increased tourism in the long-term.
And that’s another win for Pittsburgh!”
