Harrisburg – January 8, 2025 – State Senator Wayne D. Fontana (D-Allegheny) today was named the Democratic Chair of the Senate Law & Justice Committee.

The Senate Law & Justice Committee is the committee of jurisdiction for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, with its 575 Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores and 20,000 licensees of alcohol producers, retailers, and handlers. Also under the Committee’s purview is Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Act, as well as PA State Police and local law enforcement issues.

“I am honored to be named the Democratic chair of the Law & Justice Committee,” Fontana said. “And I look forward to bringing my years of legislative service and real-world experience to the issues that the committee must address this session.”

The Pittsburgh-area lawmaker has represented the 42nd Senatorial District in Allegheny County since 2005 and is chairman of the board of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), as well as chair of the Sports and Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
