April 16, 2025: Senator Fontana attended the County Treasurers' Association of Pennsylvania annual meeting on April 16 in State College, speaking on state legislation that could impact their work.
June 23, 2024: Senator Fontana appeared on WPXI’s weekly program, Our Region’s Business, on Sunday to speak about his legislation to expand the state’s Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance (LERTA) program. The program allows for tax exemptions for certain designated, industrial, commercial and other business property so that companies or merchants pay no property taxes on the new value added to rehabilitation or construction. Unfortunately, LERTA is still capped at the 1977 level of 10 years. Senator Fontana’s legislation would expand the LERTA cap to 20 years. These changes will save Pennsylvania millions of dollars, reduce the burden on students, families, and teachers, shorten the amount of time students spend taking tests and teachers spend administering them, and ensure schools get results faster so they can address learning gaps and give students the tailored support they need to succeed.

The Iron Workers and Pittsburgh area Building and Construction Trades Council hosted the North America’s Building Trades Union for a stop on its national multi-city tour. The event focused in large part on the opportunities the exist within apprenticeship programs in the building trades.

The McKees Rocks native was elected Pennsylvania’s first female Lieutenant Governor in November 2002 and re-elected in 2006 before passing away during her second term in 2008. She was a dedicated public servant who never forgot where she came from.

September 28, 2023: Senator Fontana attended a ceremony on September 28 on the Queen Paddlewheel Boat to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Gateway Clipper Fleet. Senator Fontana presented third-generation family Owner and President, Terry Wirginis, with a Citation from the Pennsylvania Senate. May 6, 2023: Senator Fontana and Representative Deasy hosted a shredding and drug take back event in Green Tree on Saturday. Thanks to Green Tree officials for participating, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Joe Cirigliano for collecting unwanted preion medications and the hundreds of residents who dropped off papers to be shredded and medications to be properly disposed.

The event took place at the site of the former Three Rivers Stadium where Roberto collected his 3000th hit in his final regular season at-bat. Three months later, Roberto died in a plane crash in route to Nicaragua to deliver goods to earthquake victims.

The new park, the I-579 CAP Project, reconnects the Hill District with downtown Pittsburgh and provides much needed community space. Senator Fontana was proud to secure a portion of the funding for the $32 million project.

Thanks to the Allegheny County Deputy Sheriff Joe Cirigilano for participating by collecting unwanted and unused medications as part of the Sheriff’s Project D.U.M.P. program.
September 17, 2021: and Coraopolis Borough for a final beam raising ceremony for the AHN Montour Health & Sports Medicine Center in Coraopolis on Sept. 17. The conversion of a blighted rail yard is being transformed into a 78-acre facility that will feature 10 synthetic soccer and multipurpose fields, two of which will be indoors, and a 20,000-square-foot AHN clinic offering a full range of services including walk-in primary and pediatric care and sports medicine programs. Senator Fontana was proud to support a state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant for this project that will be a terrific economic generator for Coraopolis, Neville and surrounding communities.

The conversion of a blighted rail yard is being transformed into a 78-acre facility that will feature 10 synthetic soccer and multipurpose fields, two of which will be indoors, and a 20,000-square-foot AHN clinic offering a full range of services including walk-in primary and pediatric care and sports medicine programs. Senator Fontana was proud to support a state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant for this project that will be a terrific economic generator for Coraopolis, Neville and surrounding communities.

May 2021:  Senator Fontana participated in a groundbreaking ceremony in Crafton for the borough’s sewer separation project. Senator Fontana was able to help secure a $250,000 state grant to assist the project. The project will help reduce flooding risks and keep waterways clean.

November 15, 2020: Senator Fontana participated in a Pittsburgh Steelers pregame ceremony on Sunday at Heinz Field as the Steelers re-dedicated a seat as part of the One Empty Seat program.  This Chair of Honor program honors soldiers who are missing in action or prisoners of war. Senator Fontana was jointed by Senator Pam Iovino, Senator Lindsey Williams, Senator Jay Costa, and Jim Sacco, Steelers VP of Stadium Operations and Management.
