Allegheny County – January 30, 2025 – Today, State Senator Wayne Fontana announced awards totaling $1,260,750 in Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) funding to community initiatives and projects serving the constituents of the 42nd Senatorial District.
“For the last seventy-five years, Western Pennsylvania has showed the nation that when government, business, non-profits, and community groups work together, there is nothing we cannot do,” said Sen. Fontana. “I applaud this meaningful investment in successful and proven nonprofit organizations, which do such impactful work in our communities.”
NAP encourages private sector investment into projects that helps improve distressed communities by providing tax credits to businesses that donate capital to support projects. The funding can be used for projects in categories including affordable housing, community services, crime prevention, education, job training, food access, blight, special population issues, veteran’s initiatives, and long-term community revitalization.
Funding recipients include:
- 412 Food Rescue, Inc.
$13,000 from First National Bank
412 Food Rescue distributes meals to non-profit partners, who in turn distribute them to food-insecure households in the community.
- Bridge City Builders, LLC
$258,250 through the Enterprise Zone Program
Bridge City Builders is looking to acquire and renovate its workshop in Spring Garden. The project includes critical safety and infrastructure upgrades, along with expansion of the space.
- iPenn Ventures, LP
$264,000 through the Enterprise Zone Program
Adjacent to the Convention Center in the Sprit District, 933 Penn project will convert an underutilized 8-story office space to mixed-use property that includes 10% affordable housing.
- Salems Market Centre Ave LP
$28,250 through the Enterprise Zone Program
The former Hill District Shop ‘N Save at 1850 Centre Avenue is now Salem’s Market Centre and this project will create a family-friendly dining room and community space.
- Cancer Bridges
$6,500 from First National Bank of PA
The project will make needed renovations to the community room and wellness room spaces for those immunocompromised due to cancer treatments.
- Holy Family Institute
$16,250 from Dollar Bank
For the purchase of a 30-passanger school bus.
- Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation
$156,000 from Dollar Bank, Scalo Solar Solutions, LLC, FNB Corporation
The project is to establish a manufacturing facility and training initiative in the Hill District.
- YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh
$32,500 from UPMC Health Plan
The renovation of the Allegheny YMCA to meet the needs of the community, including 89 single room occupancy units.
- Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Inc.
$54,000 from UPMC, Diversified Services, FNB Corporation
Funding will be used to increase the number of clients served by 25% in the areas of job training, mental health, and crisis case management.
- Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group
$40,500 from First National Bank, WesBanco Bank
This funding will assist seventy-five small minority businesses to address systematic challenges to growing equity and investments.
- Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership
$166,500 from Duquesne Light Company, FNB Corporation, Giant Eagle, Inc.
The project will convert vacant ground floor and retail spaces into new retail businesses and will include alley and sidewalk pressure washing.
- Pittsburgh Scholar House, Inc.
$90,000 from First National Bank
Expansion of PSH’s residential and workforce programming will provide education for single-parent students to help break the cycle of poverty.
- Urban Youth Impact Project
$135,000 from Louis A. Divers Insurance Trust, FNB Corporation, Dollar Bank, TriState Capital, Kristin F. Divers Family Trust
Towards renovation for a preschool up to 50 students and a commercial kitchen for a high-quality early childhood education project.
In total, the Department of Community and Economic Development approved 218 awards last week totaling $34.3 million through NAP. Details about the program and a full list of awardees can be found here.
