Allegheny County January 28, 2025 – Today, State Senator Wayne Fontana announced $2,262,144 in grants from the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund (GEDTF) for infrastructure and redevelopment projects across the 42nd Senatorial District.

Fontana worked to secure the following funding:

  • $420,000 to St. Clair Memorial Hospital in Mt. Lebanon for its development of a Simulation Suite & Task Training Room at St. Clair Health.
  • $225,000 to Point Park University to convert the grass fields to synthetic turf at its Green Tree baseball complex.
  • $214,539 to the Boys & Girls Club of Western PA for the HVAC replacement project at the Carnegie Clubhouse.

“GEDTF is a valuable funding tool for our communities and is often the difference between a project being completed or not,” said Senator Fontana. “I am proud to have advocated for these grants coming into my district, which will have a huge impact across Allegheny County.”

Also awarded GEDTF grants in the 42nd Senatorial District include:

  • Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services – $460,000 towards the purchase of a blighted lot for VisAbility Place
  • Pittsburgh Opera – $187,605 towards the Economic Impact Through the Arts
  • Pittsburgh Symphony – $150,000 towards upgrades to the Heinz Hall backstage passenger elevator
  • The Ben Avon Area Historical Association, Inc – $100,000 towards the Avonworth Historical Society-Elste restoration project
  • Carnegie Institute – $100,000 towards equipment upgrades at the Andy Warhol Museum
  • Mancini’s Bakery, Inc. – $80,000 towards its addition project in McKees Rocks
  • Mid-Atlantic Mothers Milk Bank – $70,000 towards its Bellevue expansion project
  • Quaker Valley Council of Governments – $70,000 towards construction of an ADA-compliant restroom at Bayne Park in Bellevue
  • Borough of Green Tree – $65,000 towards the renovations of the Green Tree Swimming Pool House
  • Lebanon – $60,000 towards accessibility upgrades and community room expansion at the Community Recreation Center
  • YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh – $60,000 towards the continued renovation of the Allegheny Y

Sen. Fontana has secured nearly $5.5 million in GEDTF grants over the last three years for municipalities, nonprofits, and small businesses in his district.

GEDTF grants are reserved for economic development projects, infrastructure development projects, job training, community improvement projects, public safety projects, and public interest projects in Allegheny County. Grant funding is appropriated from gaming revenues.

Funds are administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). More information about GEDTF grants can be found online.
