Allegheny County – July 16, 2025 – Today, Senator Wayne Fontana announced $409,250 in grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to fund clean transportation projects in Allegheny County.

“These grants both update our transportation infrastructure and help clean our air,” said Senator Fontana. “Funding electric and natural gas vehicle projects in the county benefits both our local businesses and the environment, while ensuring the public has access to modern infrastructure.”

Grant recipients that serve the 42nd District include:

  • Giant Eagle – $300,000 for the purchase of fifteen CNG tractor trailers, as part of the company’s Delivering a Cleaner Future program.
  • Duquesne Light Company – $78,750 towards the purchase of thirteen EV pickup trucks and an EV passenger vehicle.
  • Borough of Bellevue – $15,000 for the purchase of an EV passenger vehicle and an EV passenger truck.
  • Flyspace Productions – $15,500 towards the purchase and installation of four Level 2 chargers for the vehicle fleet of this event management and production company headquartered on the North Side.

The grants were awarded from the DEP Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant program, an initiative meant to help municipalities, businesses, and nonprofit organizations replace older gasoline or diesel fueled vehicles with clean fuel transportation.
